That stayed the case for Liberty’s from 2002-2007. In 2001 Chrysler introduced the same type of fuel tank layout and positioning in the Jeep Liberty. This was the case for Jeep Grand Cherokees from 1999 to 2004. The WJ model had a fuel tank located behind the rear axle. The Jeep Grand Cherokee underwent a redesign in 1999.
